Gas is now $3.49 here in Grand Rapids. I heard that production of oil was increased so lets hope it put the brakes on the increasing prises. It is getting close to $300.00 to fill the truck and the bass boat.

How long do you suppose it would take to get from the south end of Cross to the north end of Whitefish via Minn Kota? Even if you can get there, will you have enough juice left to fish?
Spare batteries are sounding cheaper than tanks of gas.

Let's go with say where Camp Foley is.
I'm guessing around 2 1/2 hours. Run the Kota on 10 and you'll be out of battery. With 3 batteries, you can make it running on 4 or 5. Got 3 batteries, you're in.
The real question is can you go load up on 12" fish on the south end of Crosslake and get back to Driftwood Resort using only the trolling motor. That might be a little tough. That is to get back, the 12" fish are the easier of the two.

Today, I have to give out congratulations to FOX 9 (KMSP) who said one of the main reasons for the high prices and prices expected to go even higher was because of the high demand and the lack of refining capability.
Congratulations Channel 9, somebody in the Twin Cities actually got it right. Last refinery built, 1978, 30 years ago. Wow. There isn't a lack of oil, it's a lack of refineries.
Where is the KARE 11 Extra talking about how this country is lacking refineries?
Where is Don Shelby in his Mr. Know It All Segment clamorring for more refineries so folks that make 100 times less than him can afford gas?
In November if you want prices to come down ask the candidates 2 questions: 1. Are you in favor of building more refineries? Yes= lower gas prices; No=stay the course
2. Are you in favor of drilling in Alaska? Yes=lower gas prices; No=stay the course and stay away from the Caribou motel.
Note: I want to know the last time one of those politicians who are against drilling in Alaska were up there for a week long vacation to really understand what is up there and how freaking desolate it probably is.
Good job channel 9.

Isn't it funny how the government can buy up houses to expand roads making it easier for us to use gas and drive our cars, but they won't buy up houses to allow for refineries to be built so we have enough gas for our cars?
If the government wants to create jobs, start building refineries. Need people to build them and need people to work in them. Instead we are going to grow corn to solve the problem. Brilliant.

Lots of talk about how guys are going to fish anyway no matter the gas prices. Something is happening out there, whether its gas prices or the economy in general. Not sure, but what I do see is tournament entries are down already early in the year. BASS on Le Homme Dieu was down from last year on the pro and am entry side. Last year Joel drew an easy 50 on Poke and could have taken more. This year, he didn't get to 50. The Skeeter tournament this weekend is down significantly for teams. Yes, there are some conflicts with each tournament weekend, but there always has been. I think gas prices is weighing heavily in the fewer entries. My wife talked to somebody at Grand View today and they said their business is like January. Not good. Our business is down as well. I have an idea on the gas prices, let's just keep buying other peoples oil so the caribou can run freely and so the people in California who have telescopes can't see oil wells 150 miles off the coast. If nothing changes, we will see $5 per gallon within the next 12 months and it will all be blamed on......., it certainly wont' be blamed on the party who is opposed to drilling in this areas I mentioned. Conservative estimates by experts have said we have enough oil and natural gas to supply this country for 100 years. But because one party and the media is beholden to environmentalist groups, we sit here with untapped resources. The 100 year projection does not take into account that we are getting more energy efficient, so the 100 years could and most likely would be even higher. Take a look and see what congressman, senators and presidential candidates want to tap the resources and those who don't. Obama recently said he would like to see a slow correction in gas prices. Anyone want to see a slow one or a quick one? I for one would like to see a quick one. I think it is effecting the economy as a whole.

I'm very pleased with the turnout for the last two events.....Whitefish filled with 50 anglers and at Poke(47 anglers) had more anglers than last year! I was however concerned but with low number of entries going in to the last two weeks before each event. I have noticed that we have lost a few long time excel anglers this year but have replaced them with several new members! Hope this trend continues.... See ya'll on Leech! ps/ let me know when Summer arrives up there and I'll come back from FL

I think turnout looks good at the tournys . Instead of everyone paying for the circut up front I thik they are waiting till the last minute.
Pokegama cost me over $200 in gas for 1 1/2 day prefishing ans tourny day . Saved money by splitting motel 4 ways with Tom < Keith , and Foster and used the microwave in the room to eat left overs from my daughters grad party to make up the difference .

Soukups tournament had 38 boats. No other real tournament conflicts. He thinks gas was the reason. 38 is down big time.
Somebody was telling me Wednesday night at Steves house that there is no longer a waiting list for the Fort Frances Canadian Championship. If that is true, sounds like another gas concern to me.

The following link to some posts at fishwrench.com do relate to gas prices, however it covers alot more and will make fishing even more expensive than it is now. No, costs on rods and reels aren't going to be taxed any more than they are now, but most will have less money to buy rods and reels. Especially take note of timberspins points. Very interesting. www.fishwrench.com/tactics/default.aspx?g=posts&t=74

Wednesday night (9/24) at 6:00 p.m. central on CNN Headline News, for 1 hour the guest will be a former CEO of Shell Oil Company. The main topic as I understand it is why $4 a gallon.

As we just got nicked for another nickel a gallon per gas, you don't even know it as gas prices are tumbling. Since spring we are paying another 7.5 cents per gallon in state tax. I have already noticed how improved the roads are It's amazing how we get taxed and don't even know it sometimes. Look at your phone bill sometime. Glad to see gas is going down, it will now give one party in the next four weeks be able to say "see, we don't need to drill." Right, we are below $3 and all of a sudden we think we are getting a great deal and the problem is solved. Watch, those comments will be made or something else like, maybe we can now approach this problem slower and take our time since gas has dropped 25% in 3 months.
