Reposted from Fishwrench.com Thanks Bob!
On January 12th, Jerry Martin (known by many as Timberspin in the FWForums) lost his battle with cancer. He had been fighting through all of 2008, and even though sick from the chemo, he still tried to fish an number of Excel events. Some of them he would finish, and others he could not.
Additional treatments he was receiving at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester inspired him and gave him more hope. He had started shopping for a new bass boat to award himself for his courageous fight. Sadly, those treatments failed and the cancer had moved to his liver.
On January 12th as an arctic blast prepared to hit Minnesota, Jerry was preparing for his final day with us.
The thoughts and prayers of the Fishwrench family and team go out to Jerry, his family and friends.
In 2009 and years forward the 1st FWBass of each season will be the named the Jerry Martin Memorial Tournament.
Goodbye friend.

Note: Last year I got to know Jerry and how he loved to get out and enjoy the friendly competition and fellowship he got from fishing the Excel events. It was good to see him at the events he was able to fish. His dedication and perseverance to the sport and to life in general will forever make him an inspiration to me.
Our first Excel Bass Singles Event will be dedicated to Jerry Martin.
You'll surely be missed my friend,
Joel
