You always have a good field for the Whitefish tournament. Probably the highest attended. This year could be quite different if guys who come up to fish the Skeeter tournament Friday and Saturday want to stick around and fish the excel singles on Sunday. Might fill 50 even quicker.
Talked to Steve and tentative schedule is June 26 Whitefish, June 27 Gull.
Now that I think of it, will the DNR be o.k. with 2 tournaments in 3 days on that lake? If they are, might be an interesting field for Whitefish.

Steve's Skeeter event was always third week-end....oh boy here we go again....we'll just wait and see what the DNR or drawing results say...

When I saw your schedule I remember Steve's 2008 entry form indicated a date change for 2009. I e-mailed him and he did confirm it is the weekend I posted.

Looks like a great list of lakes Joel. With ABA going to a Wisconsin favored circuit next year you will probably have a full field at every event. I know of SEVERAL guys that are not going to fish the ABA. I have also heard that many are not happy with the Silverado so will have to see what happens next year. Arnie

I'm not fishing ABA next year. What's the negative buzz with Silverado?

I am surprised you would be happy with the first priority for WF since you have been fishing the Camp Confidence event for years... This year (I hope) tournament directors communicate and we can fish more events with less conflicts. (schedule)

Well said Bob. Wouldn't it be better to resolve the conflict rather than appear to be victorious because one guy won't have his permit now?
I hope it works out for both sides. Soukups tournament is my favorite of the year. Tough field, but fun and challenging like no other tournament. Also, that tournament raises a good chunk of change for Camp Confidence.
I e-mailed Steve to let him know he didn't get his permit based on your post Joel, in case he was unaware of it and hopefully something gets done so both are happy.

Just noticed Gull is on Labor Day weekend. You already have Memorial Day weekend covered with the Team Series. 4th of July was forgotten in this mix. Got an idea. Why not start a new circuit and call it the Excel Holiday Weekend Series. Here is how it works. Team Tournament on Memorial Day weekend/opener weekend on Leech. Each member of the team will receive the corresponding points. In other words the winning team will have 2 members and each will get 100 points. Keep the Team Excel event as well, just run one tournament as a dual tournament. Singles Tournament on July 4th weekend, where else but Leech Lake. Points will be awarded like any other singles event would. For those who accumulated points in the team series, they would be added to the points accumulated for the 4th of July weekend event. Third tournament to be held on Gull Lake September 6. This will be a singles event for this series and once again points will be accumulated. At the end of the 3 tournaments, you will have the Holiday Angler Of The Year. I guess you could hold a TOC on Columbus Day, but that would not be in the true spirit of this series as Columbus day is not one of the summer long weekend holidays. I'd stick with the 3 events. The beauty of this is you'll only add 1 tournament, the 4th of July event on Leech and as we know, you don't even need a permit. Leave Gull as you have it and for those who are fishing the Holiday series, they will get points and for those just fishing the regular singles series they will also get points. Guys who are fishing both circuits will get the same amount of points assigned to each circuit. Same applies for the Team Excel event that would be dual event on Leech for the Holiday Weekend Series. Or you could just stop scheduling tournaments on holiday weekends so those of us who make those weekend family and friend times, can do so while still fishing the tournaments. Not sure what the drive is to schedule tournaments on holiday weekends. Last year you had 28 entries for the singles event 4th of July weekend. The worst event besides the river event for the singles and the river doesn't count because that has always been the least attended event. Guarantee that you only had 28 because it was 4th of July weekend. You typically fill that event. 22 boats short of filling it. The two previous tournaments up until Leech, had 50 and 47 boats respectively. Just don't understand the persistence to schedule tournaments on holiday weekends.

Bill,
If the dates don't work for you don't fish it. Very Simple. Maybe it works for everyone else. Besides holidays are just for Hallmark.

Ouch...what no love?? We purposely scheduled around the CC week-end this year. Didn't know that they moved it a week later. Bob you are right...the directors should have a forum to discuss lakes and dates. I'll be restarting the MN Sportfishing Coalition over the Winter. We used to meet in Oct. to resolve schedule conflicts for a few years...worked well. Who knows...maybe qood reason why CC is permitted only for Gull this year.....I don't know. I do plan on fishing it this year. It's a great event for a great cause. So far we only have one event that we'll be changing the date on...out of 19 applications I think thats pretty good ;D Remember...all dates/lakes are tentative until we get a permit.

Dear Infamous Guest,
Did it say anywhere I wasn't fishing it? Nope. Did you miss the point that the worst turnout of the year for the singles was the Leech event which was on a holiday weekend? Again river doesn't count because that is always the lowest. Did you miss the point that the Leech event had more boats in previous years on a non-holiday weekend?
Obviously so.
If holidays work so well for others, then why did Leech only have 28 boats in the middle of the fishing season?
Other point you missed is based on the one event over a holiday weekend with low turnout last year, why push for 2 events the following year?
I'll give you credit though guest, at least you held back from calling me names this time.

Just got word...looks like we have priority for Whitefish that weekend. Steve's event only permitted for Gull for Sat. maybe they are not including Whitefish this year..hummm « Last Edit: Yesterday at 10:13am by Joel » Looks like the celebration tone was omitted. That's good. Steve, Randy and Steve are following up on this. They do not intend to only fish Gull Lake.
